COUNTYWIDE CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

A countywide criminal record search will provide details and the current disposition of any misdemeanor or felony conviction and pending cases. Criminal records will be searched in the jurisdictions where the applicant currently resides, previous addresses and work address. We conduct an on-site visit to the respective county courthouse where an electronic docket search will be performed. The greater majority of our clients choose countywide criminal background searches because they are clearly the most accurate and timely way to obtain current criminal information. It is highly recommended that an Address History and Social Security Trace Report be performed to enhance the thoroughness of the record search. (Please see below for a description of this service.) Price is per county / per name. *Access fees may apply in some counties.

Turnaround: Searches performed in most major jurisdictions routinely receive a same day response, frequently within hours. Turnaround time for searches performed in more rural areas vary from 24 to 72 hours.

ADDRESS HISTORY AND SSN TRACE REPORT

This report may provide additional address information and additional names and aliases not supplied by the candidate. This information can be extremely helpful in determining the proper jurisdictions to search for criminal records . This service also helps to verify the social security number supplied by the candidate, matches the name on file with social security administration.

STATEWIDE CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

FBC provides criminal conviction history reports from over 40 states. The remaining states are either "closed states" or states that require fingerprint submission. Although a statewide search covers a larger area than a countywide search, we caution our clients many state databases are not entirely complete and may lack up to date disposition information. Proper due diligence when performing statewide criminal background checks should be a combination of statewide and countywide searches.

Turnaround: Usually 24 to 72 hours. However, lengthy delays can occur in some states when performing a search involving a common name.

NATIONAL CRIMINAL DATABASE SEARCH

This service is offered in conjunction with county or state criminal record searches. It is a multi-jurisdictional database search and is best used as a mechanism to generate leads about where to conduct additional county or state searches, making it an excellent ancillary resource tool. To ensure that employers make decisions based on accurate information and are compliant with section 613 of the FCRA, prior to issuing any report containing criminal information obtained from a database search; Ferret Background Check will verify the information directly with the appropriate jurisdiction.

FEDERAL CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS (DISTRICT)

Federal cases tend to involve more serious crimes such as large drug cases, financial fraud,

espionage and economic espionage,conspiracy to commit extortion, bank robbery, interstate crimes and kidnapping. Unlike searches performed at the county and state level, identifiers, such as dates of birth, are unavailable. This makes searches on common names extremely difficult, if not impossible. For this reason, we recommend that federal criminal background checks be performed whenever there is a large unexplained period of time in employment history.

Turnaround: Same day.

INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

Hiring employees from outside the United States, or opening a facility in a third world country, requires a partner who has expertise in obtaining international criminal records. FBC currently offers criminal background searches in over 80 countries, whether they are in Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, South America or North America. It should be noted that some third world countries have antiquated systems at best, and it is difficult to verify the completeness and accuracy of the information.

Turnaround: Varies by country, usually within three to ten days.

NATIONAL SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY CHECK

This is a search of the national sex offender registry which includes individuals that have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor sex offense and are required to register in the state in which they reside.

TERRORIST AND FUGITIVE DATABASE SEARCH - USA PATRIOT ACT

The FBC Homeland Security Search is a direct search of forty-five National and International Terrorist and Fugitive Lists which are available in today’s heightened security environment. This extensive search helps impede terrorists and fugitives by identifying individuals linked to terrorism or classified on government watch lists, thus improving compliance with the Patriot Act.

DMV REPORTS (DRIVING RECORDS)

While some companies believe driving records should be used only if an applicant will be driving a company car, FBC believes motor vehicle information can expose important character issues. By searching an applicant's driving record we learn about suspended licenses, failures to appear in court and arrest warrants. In addition, offenses such as driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, may serve as a warning of potential substance abuse problems that can affect job performance. DMV reports are obtained from the issuing state of the license. This report gives you the driving record of the individual including DUI's and suspensions. Most State Department of Motor Vehicles will provide a driving history of three years for minor citations and five years for major citations.

CREDIT HISTORY REPORTS

We highly recommend credit history reports for employees that can affect your company financially. The applicant's personal financial history with their creditors will be provided through a major credit reporting agency. This report includes complete consumer credit activity detailing overdue or slow accounts, charge-offs, collections, suits, tax liens, judgments and bankruptcies. The entire credit report will be provided for review and retention.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE TESTING

Substance Abuse Testing is available in both a five-metabolite panel and a ten-metabolite panel. A five-metabolite panel tests for five drug groups consisting of Amphetamines, Cocaine, Marijuana, Opiate and Phencyclidine. The ten-panel tests for the same five drug groups plus Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Methadone, Methaqualone and Propoxyphene.

Turnaround: 24 to 36 hours

EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION

Every attempt will be made to verify dates of employment, position attained, salary information, reason for leaving and eligibility for rehire. We also offer Employment Verification "Plus" which is a customized verification package. Pricing for "Plus" is dictated by the number of screening questions you require.

Turnaround: Depends on the accessibility of the employer.

EDUCATION VERIFICATION

Listing academic degrees never obtained or educational institutions never attended are two of the most frequent resume or application embellishments. For college or university verification we will confirm the candidate's dates of attendance, graduation date and degree(s) earned. For high school or GED verification we will confirm the graduation date.

E-VERIFY, ELECTRONIC FORM I-9

Verifying employees' legal right to work in the United States via the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration has become an overriding concern. FBC's I-9 efficient, web-based, paperless compliance solution allows employers to electronically submit, track and securely archive I-9 government forms.

WORKERS' COMPENSATION HISTORY

Workers’ compensation searches must be conducted post-job offer.This search identifies workers compensation claims against an applicant's past employers and may reveal previous employers not listed on the candidate’s application or resume. Up to five cases will be reported and will include case numbers, locations, case status, dates of injury, body parts injured, type of injury, and all party information including lien claimants.

Turnaround: 24 To 48 hours in most states.

OIG / GSA SEARCH

The OIG (Office of the Inspector General) & GSA (General Service Administration) search utilizes the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' and the Office of the Inspector General's database for individuals and businesses excluded or sanctioned from participating in Medicare, Medicaid or other Federally funded programs. The OIG and GSA search is vital for healthcare industries.

NURSE AIDE REGISTRY CERTIFICATION

Certification will be validated through the respective Department of Public Health. Any record of abuse, neglect or theft, as indicated by that department, will be reported. When available, we will also indicate the date and results of the last recorded criminal background check.
